Send me a mail message. Use the subject "Out of Lab Assignment" and
include within the body of the message your name. When I
receive your message, I will reply to it (not immediately, it may take a
day or two). Remember to log off of your centum account. +2.5 points
Perform a net search using Netscape on some topic that is of interest
to you (e.g. a hobby, favorite entertainer, favorite TV show, your major,
the weather, travel, some company or another university, government agency of some kind,
etc.). When you find an interesting page, print it off.
Remember, if you are searching for a phrase like music education,
you must enclose the phrase in double quotes like this: "music education"
. If you don't, you may get a list of pages that just contain the word
music or education. +2.5 points
Read pages DOS2-DOS33 and pages DOS41-DOS71 in the Introduction to
DOS chapter. This reading is more difficult than the previous chapters,
consequently don't put it off until the last minute. It is very important that
you have this material read before the next lab.

Create a presentation:
Review the page PP57 and the presentation tips in the Power Point
chapter.
Create a presentation about your major. Pretend that you are
presenting your major to a group of undecided freshman. List
some general information (i.e. major courses, possible careers,
etc.) that would be of interest to these people. Don't worry
too much about the content of the slide, but do pay attention
to the formatting. If you don't have a major, pick one that
is of interest to you.
You must have at least 3 slides with the first being the title
slide and the others bulleted slides.
Use the Pick-A-Look wizard to help you with the appearance of
your presentation.
Make sure your name, the date and the pate numbers appear on
every page (enter this information in the Pick-A-Look wizard).
Use Line Formatting to make the lists appear well-spaced.
Must be printed out with the Scale To Fit Page and the
Pure Black and White option or points will be taken off.

Create a presentation using outline view (like in Project 2) to try
to persuade me to buy some product or service.
Review the presentation tips from Project 1 and Project 2. Keep
them in mind while you are creating this presentation.
The presentation must contain at least 3 slides (one title slide
and two others).
Modify the Line Spacing (done in Project 1) to make the
presentation look well-spaced.
Print the outline view.
Print the presentation as Handouts (3 slides per page)
chosen from the Print What drop-down list box. It MUST
be printed with the Pure Black & White option.
If you can't decide on a subject for the presentation, look
through the available clip-art for an idea.
An extra-credit point will be given if your presentation is
well-spaced, uses clip-art effectively, and follows the presentation
tips given in Project 1 and Project 2.

I will e-mail you a file containing questions about Centum to answer.
If you do not receive one call me and we will try it
again. I will only send the file to those who gave me their centum user
id in lab.
Extract the message from mail. Name it anything you like.
Edit the message and answer the questions. If you hit the ctrl and Z
keys while in the editor, your work will be saved. If you edit the file
again, all of the changes you made will be there. You may need to exit
the editor to find the answer to some of the questions. Refer to the
handout for instructions on how to use the editor.
Print the file. If you are in KEH-L1, use the command:
print filename /que=kehlb1
If you can't get the editor or mail to work and you have waited to late
to ask me questions, just write the answers on a sheet of paper. You will
have points deducted, but it is better than nothing.
If you have any problems, let me know. I am here to answer
your questions. The computer lab attendants may not know the answer to
your questions or they may tell you the wrong answer.
